Xie Shichen (1487-after 1567), Landscape, hanging scroll

Xie Shichen (1487-after 1567), also known by his zi(courtesy name) Sizhong and his hao (literary name) Chuxian, was a native of Suzhou, Jiangsu province. A devotee of poetry and painting, he modeling his art on that of Shen Zhou but developed his own style. He excelled in creating monumental paintings, which were grand yet elegant. Rivers and seas were his strength and snow-covered landscape was his favorite. His representative works include Journey in the Snow-Capped Mountains(Xueshan xinglyu tu), Streams and Mountains after Snowfall(Xishan jixue tu), and Poetic Landscape of Duling(Duling shiyi tu).
