Welcome to the official website of Hubei Provincial Museum!
Hubei Provincial Museum, supported by both the central and local governments, serves as the “national cultural living room” for Sino-Indian head-of-state diplomacy in 2018 and as the ancestral hall of Jing-Chu culture in China. It plays a multifaceted role. First, it is a major institution for the collection and exhibition of cultural relics, having been recognized as a national key museum and a national first-class museum. Second, it plays a crucial role in the protection of cultural heritage, serving as a key national unit for the preservation of ancient books. Additionally, the museum has an important educational function, acting as a national demonstration base for patriotic education, a national base for science popularization, and a national platform for cross-strait archaeological teaching and exchange. Furthermore, the museum is also engaged in scientific research, as a key research base for the National Cultural Heritage Administration specializing in the protection of unearthed wood lacquerware. Finally, with its aesthetic appeal, it is designated as a national 5A tourist attraction and a model unit for civilized tourism at the national level.
The predecessor of Hubei Provincial Museum can be traced back to the Hubei Provincial Public Science Laboratory established in 1928.In 1953, the Hubei Provincial People’s Government established the Preparatory Office of Hubei Provincial Museum, thus beginning a new chapter marked by arduous efforts and the laying of a solid foundation for the museum’s development. For the past 70 years, Hubei Provincial Museum has forged ahead with determination and pursued excellence, achieving remarkable results in museum infrastructure, public services, social influence, international exchanges, and other aspects. It has become a popular cultural destination that enriches people’s lives and an important window for international cultural exchange and mutual learning.
2023 marks the 70th anniversary of Hubei Provincial Museum.
With a new starting point and a new journey ahead,in September this year we formulated and released the Three-Year Development Plan for Hubei Provincial Museum (2023–2025). The plan establishes the overall “12345” development strategy—1 goal, 2 systems, 3 dimensions, 4 indicators, and 5 tasks. Specifically, it includes: Onecore goal: building a “world-class museum with Chinese characteristics”; Twoevaluation systems: the operational evaluation index system for national first-class museums and the evaluation system for national key museums jointly built by the central and local governments; Threedimensions: inheritance, influence, and innovation; Fourindicators: total audience, underage audience, overseas audience, and cultural and creative product sales; Fivetasks: venue construction, public services, protection and research, exhibition and dissemination, and exchange and mutual learning. This plan aims to guide Hubei Provincial Museum in becoming a “world-class museum with Chinese characteristics” during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, fully realizing its exemplary, leading, and driving role.
In the future, we will continue to hold high the great banner of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, closely aligning our work with the overall framework of the “Five-sphere Integrated Plan” and the strategic layout of the “Four-pronged Comprehensive Strategy”, as well as the province’s major regional development strategies for economic and social growth. In line with the goal of building a pilot zone for establishing a new development pattern nationwide and adhering to the principles of cultural relics work in the new era, we will deeply study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Culture, carry forward the cultural heritage of Jing-Chu and strengthen cultural confidence, ensure clarity of development direction and contribute to the building of modern civilization, deepen international cooperation and promote exchanges and mutual learning, and coordinate efforts to advance the high-quality development of the museum sector. Through these efforts, we aim to facilitate the inheritance and development of Jing-Chu culture and to contribute the museum’s strength to the province’s endeavor to “build a fulcrum, lead the way, and write a new chapter.”
