Wu Heting (1896-1986), also known by her zi (courtesy name) Zhu, was a native of Zhao'an, Fujian province. Her husband, Wu Sibin, was a wealthy overseas Chinese merchant. In her childhood, she received her early education at the Songzhai Private Academy established by her family, and later attended Danzhao Primary School.
